I’m sitting here in the London airport on my way home for Christmas reflecting on God’s grace and goodness throughout this last year! Living in a third-world country I’ve come to realize and be thankful for the many things I used to so often take for granted—health, safety, provision, etc! And tomorrow I will hug my Mom back on Canadian soil-healthy and well!
When I left for Uganda my Dad wrote this verse in the front of my Bible: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9) I have so often referred back to that verse during this last year. There have been times when I felt weak, and there have been other times where I needed courage-but each and every time our all-sufficient God has provided the grace for every moment.
I’m so thankful for the many relationships that the Lord has given me here in Uganda, and especially for the sweet relationships already built with the people in our community. The warm hugs, goodbyes, “I’ll miss you”, and worries expressed that I might not return are sweet evidences of the Lord’s blessing. The day before I left I visited some of the ladies from my Bible studies at their homes and gave those who didn’t yet have a Bible one of their own. (Thanks to the Kids & Staff at All Tribes Christian Camp) The ladies were thrilled with their Christmas presents. So, while I’m excited to leave the dirty, dusty country with Crazy roads, I’m sad to leave behind the many friends God has given; yet happy that I already have so many friends to leave behind!
What a year it has been. God has so faithfully guided, strengthened, grown us, and given us grace upon grace. As the end of the year approaches our hearts are filled with joy as we reflect on all that God’s done—It’s incredible to think of what’s been accomplished in only one year. None of this would be possible without you! As I’ve said many times before-we couldn’t do it without you!
I’m also looking at our calendar for next year and I know the Lord has much ahead. We have 10+ short-term teams here this next year, we’re planning 6 regional conferences throughout the country, adding another 50 children to our primary school, and more!
I hope you each have a Merry Christmas rejoicing in all the joys of the season with your family and friends.
